Ms. Harris has been a special education teacher for CPS for approximately 22 years. This is her eleventh year at Hayt. Prior to teaching for CPS, Ms. Harris taught at Pathways Therapeutic Day School for seven years. This private institution served students who had severe emotional and behavior problems.
Ms. Harris has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She also earned a Master’s Degree in Inner City Studies and Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University.
Ms. Harris believes it is important to establish positive rapport with her students in order for them to engage in learning. Students need consistency, as well as structure. It is important for students to know they can depend on their teacher for support and encouragement.
Ms. Harris is a major sports fan. During every Chicago game she dons her sports attire for the Bears, Cubs, and Bulls. Go Chicago!
