Jashvanti Patel

Jashvanti Patel is the primary special education teacher working with students in instructional and resources settings. Mrs. Patel is from India who was born in Kenya, Africa. She spent her childhood in Kisumu, Kenya and moved to India. Mrs. Patel received her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in education and worked in a teacher training institute before coming to the USA in 1990. She received Master’s Degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from Olivet Nazarene University in 2001.

Before coming to Hayt School, Mrs. Patel worked as an ESL instructor at National Puerto Rican Forum and Malcolm X College. At Hayt, Mrs. Patel has worked as a Reading Resource teacher for ten years. During this time, she successfully coordinated the implementation of the Accelerated Reading Program to help all students improve in reading. In 2000, Mrs. Patel joined the Special Education Program. Mrs. Patel collaborates with regular education and bilingual teachers to plan and implement accommodations and modifications for students with special needs. She works with her students at their levels and applies different strategies to help them progress as a student and as a person. Mrs. Patel uses technology to enhance students’ learning in reading and math. She is on the Special Education committee.

Mrs. Patel enjoys spending her time with her family, practicing yoga, and reading.
