Ms. Adelstein is an ESL teacher in her 9th year at Hayt Elementary School. She teaches students in grades 5-8 in a small classroom setting and is also an inclusion teacher collaborating with over 12 General Education teachers. She enjoys working with the diverse learners and teachers at Hayt. Her philosophy of teaching is that relationships are key to making an impact on students’ experiences at school. In addition to being an advocate for bilingual education, “Ms. A” is a nature lover; thus, she is one of the founders and sponsors of the popular environmental club “Roots and Shoots” since 2006.
Ms. Adelstein is an Evanston native who attended the University of Arizona and the University of New Mexico with majors in English and Sociology and a Master’s degree in Bilingual Secondary Education. She spent one year studying and teaching in Oaxaca, Mexico where she became fluent in Spanish and interested in multicultural education.
In her spare time she likes to read, eat good food, exercise and spend time with her family.
